Better value through lower investment costs

In 2004, Brett Investment was one of the first Independent Financial Advisor (IFA) firms to pioneer a switch to fee-based financial planning as we believed it would offer clients better value, transparency and control.

In the past people would often pay for financial advice by commission. Paying by commission never meant that your advisor’s services were free, in fact far from it as you paid indirectly via the extra product charges (which pay for the commission). In our view commission simply distorted the advice process and created a potential conflict of interest.

Shifting to fees was one of the best things we ever did and once explained properly we find that clients far prefer working this way. Our fee is calculated as a percentage of the assets that we influence, not on the transactions that we undertake for you. Simply put, this means we are rewarded for ‘managing your money’ and not for ‘moving your money’ as most advisers are.

Alignment of Interests

We believe that this aligns our interests with yours and means that your success is our success and if your investment portfolio does reduce in value then our fees will reduce with it.

Our fee includes a personal cash flow forecast, consolidation, unlimited meetings, liaison with professional advisors and a lifetime relationship – all for less than the cost of an average UK unit trust fund. We only use investment funds, custodians and financial services and products which are commission free, and always negotiate with fund managers to reduce costs where possible.

All fees, expenses and transaction charges are fully disclosed in advance and clearly accounted for. They are described in full within our Client Agreement, which you will receive at our Discovery Meeting.
