The Bettr Blog

As we bid farewell to an incredibly quick 2023, here’s what we noticed/did along the way…

  • Faith in the markets proved right again

Whilst some misguided people fell to the temptation of a 5% cash return those of you who remained patient and disciplined (read all of you!) reaped the rewards of a very strong market recovery in 2023. A hat tip to you all!

With the exception of one fund*, all the funds in your portfolio outperformed cash in 2023, and even then DFA’s Global Short Dated Bond fund delivered a very decent +4.33%.

  • AI, AI, AI

Artificial Intelligence became the buzzword in 2023. Nick and I attended several conferences last year where AI was heavily featured.

Things are changing super-fast.

What all this will mean for society I have no idea!

Like others we are ‘watching this space’ and seeking out new ways that we can deliver what we do more effectively.

Hopefully it’ll mean that the gathering of data for (and from you) will become a whole lot easier!

  • Back to School

Brett Investment has re-engaged with our original business coach. Way back when I was transforming Brett Investment from a Version 1 (financial advice) business to a Version 2 (financial planning) business in 2007/8 I engaged with Brett Davidson of FP Advance.

An Australian, Brett had owned and run a highly successful financial planning business in Sydney. By then married to a Brit, Brett sold his share in the business and set sail for good old blighty to start consulting with UK financial advice businesses looking to make the same V1 to V2 shift as we did.

Now 15+ years on, and with Nick on board, I felt it time that Brett Investment took stock of our success to date but more importantly looked at ways that we can keep ‘getting better’. Albeit quite a considerable financial commitment the value Brett has provided us with has been nothing short of amazing!

  • Thank you for your feedback

Since November we have been asking clients for their feedback on their client experience/life journey with us.

Your input has been amazing and highlighted the true value that we bring, not only in managing your finances competently but also in helping you define what ‘your money is actually for’— i.e. how to live your very best life.

  • Who we best serve…

In collaboration with Brett Davidson, we’ve better defined the type of NEW CLIENTS we actually work best with. These are:

  1. Successful business owners (or professionals)
  2. Aged 50+
  3. Who are eager to make the most of their next 20+ years.

As we expand our capacity to take on some more new clients in 2023 and beyond, feel free to let me know if there is anyone who you think we might be able to help?

  • New website unveiled

To better showcase our evolution, we have completely rebuilt our website.

Explore the menu above and have a scroll through. We think you’ll really like it!

Looking ahead to 2024…

As we embark on the new year, we are excited and hugely optimistic about what 2024 will bring not just for us but you (our clients) as well.

While markets will likely exhibit their usual fluctuations, our (and your) long-term commitment to evidence-based investing in the world’s great companies remains unwavering.

We (and you) are investors, not speculators, and our combined faith in these great companies’ need for innovation and continuous improvement positions us for continued success.

In conclusion, someone mentioned “YOLO” to me over the holidays—You Only Live Once!

In our line of work, we are constantly reminded that time waits for nobody, so let’s make 2024 your best year yet, filled with meaningful experiences and achievements.

Thank you for entrusting us with “investing in your future life”.

Here’s to a fabulous 2024!

Jeremy
