About The Team

Genuinely changing people’s lives for the better

About Jeremy

Jeremy started his career in financial services back in 1992 and, having experienced both the good and the bad of the industry, set up Brett Investment in his back bedroom in 2000.

Changing people’s lives

Jeremy was one of the first Independent Financial Advisors (IFAs) in Scotland to pioneer a move to fee-based lifestyle financial planning.

Jeremy says:

“Proper financial planning, when done well, can genuinely change people’s lives for the better. I love my job and I am constantly left humbled and inspired by the impact we have on our clients and how they see and feel about their life. My role is to help our clients define, achieve and then maintain the ‘best version’ of their life. It truly is a privileged position and one I am grateful for.”

In 2007, Jeremy attained the globally renowned CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERCM accreditation. This was followed by becoming a Chartered Financial Planner in 2014.

Jeremy is married to Shona (who is Brett Investment’s office manager) with whom he has three (now) adult children. In his spare time, he loves coaching all aspects of rugby.

Why use a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERCM professional

A CFPCM professional is someone you can trust.

A CFPCM professional is a Financial Planner who has completed a high level qualification.

A CFPCM professional adheres to strict rules and regulations so you can always be sure you’re receiving the best advice.

A CFPCM professional talks with you to ascertain what you really want from life and how you can achieve this with healthy finance.

CII Chartered Financial Planner

In 2014, Jeremy also became a CII Chartered Financial Planner.

As the leading professional body for the global financial services profession, the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) exists to promote higher standards of integrity, technical competence and business capability. With over 115,000 members in more than 150 countries, the CII is the world’s largest professional body dedicated to insurance and financial services.

Chartered status is only given to financial planners that have attained and maintain the highest and most prestigious level of professional achievement.

CFPCM, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERCM and cfp are certification marks owned outside the U.S. by Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. Institute of Financial Planning is the marks licensing authority for the CFP marks in the United Kingdom, through agreement with FPSB.

About Nick

Nick joined Brett Investment in October 2020, after working as a school teacher for nearly 10 years. Like for so many of us, the outbreak of coronavirus stopped him in his tracks and for Nick (after many moments of reflection), he jumped at the chance for a career change.

Getting Qualified

Nick has aspirations to become a Planner and has got potentially a few hard years ahead of him with studying, working fulltime and sitting exams. He recently joined the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) as well as Next Gen Planners, a community of like-minded professionals with aspirations in the finance profession.

When qualified, Nick most looks forward to working with people, and implementing strategies to help clients live life to the fullest… whatever that might be to them!

Nick’s BettrLife

Away from work, Nick is married to Caitlin who works as Doctor in the South of Scotland. Together they enjoy living in Melrose and recently got married at Harmony House. They both look forward to being able to holiday out with the school holidays and seeing parts of the world they haven’t already.

Having been a PE teacher with a love of rugby, Nick immersed himself in Melrose Rugby Club and currently coaches the U18 Wasps team alongside Jeremy.

The Future

Getting qualified over the next 2 to 3 years is Nick’s motivation. Working in all areas of the business is enabling him to get ‘under the bonnet’ of Brett Investment… and I have to say… he makes a very good coffee!

You will no doubt have received some correspondence from Nick over the last couple of years – he is however looking forward to meeting you all face to face when the world allows.

About Katie

Katie joined Brett Investment back in the summer of 2000. Her son had started High School and finding herself redundant, she went back to college to refresh her admin skills to start a new chapter. So, I suppose you can say she is in with the bricks!

She has seen a lot of changes at Brett Investment, but the one constant she enjoys the most is the connection with our clients and the opportunity to be a part of their lives over the years.

Katie was born in Galashiels and now lives in Selkirk, so very much a Borderer. She lives with her 2 cats and is very much our crazy cat lady…

Away from work, she enjoys reading, anything to do with history and thankfully, since she works with Nick and Jeremy, most things rugby!
